Good Spring For Greens

Not Much Else It’s mid-June but some night’s the temperature still drops to the mid 50º F and with a cool wind blowing during the day, it feels more like late winter than late spring.  Roses love this weather, a combination of cool dry days with some rain in between.  Except when the rain pours down so hard that everything droops and petals are knocked to the ground. … Continue reading Good Spring For Greens

1&2 ‘Midnight Marvel’ hibiscus, 3&4 ‘Plum Crazy’ hibiscus. These are hardy hibiscuses that I planted in the garden in zone 6. I wish I could plant all my hibiscuses in the ground so I don’t have to repot them every year. #hibiscus #hardyhibiscus #midnightmarvelhibiscus #plumcrazyhibiscus #tropicalplants #backyardgarden #summergarden #flowersforpollinators #redhibiscus #pollinatorgarden #purplehibiscus
The Robin’s eggs by the front door finally hatched, all three of them. This year will be the last year we let them nest there. They made a mess on our bay window and the railing. #robin #americanrobin #backyardbirds #birdchicks #babybird #songbird #birdsofnorthamerica #robinnest #robineggs #migratorybirds
I hope this male Monarch butterfly will not be the last wild one I see. Fingerroot or Chinese keys (Boesenbergia rotunda) is a tasty culinary herb and has many medicinal properties. I harvest the roots once a year in summer and ferment them in sake. (Clockwise from top left). I usually leave them in the sake for two months before straining them. For me this is better than an apple, a shot a day keeps the doctor away. 😁 The bottom left image is new sprouts from the rhizomes I replanted after harvesting the roots. #fingerroot #boesenbergiarotunda #chinesekeys #herbs #medicinalherbs #growyourownherbs #culinaryherbs #growyourownmedicinalgarden #backyardherbs #growyourownfood #tropicalherbs #krachai #kunchi
