Early Crocuses

Spring is just around the corner. This year it seems like winter and spring have been taking turns in our neighborhood weekly. The temperature has gone from below freezing to close to 50F and back down again every week. Our tulips have started to push themselves above ground. I wish they wouldn’t do that. There is at least a month and a half of winter … Continue reading Early Crocuses

Spring At Last

Some Colors In The Garden I see the spring light at the end of the tunnel, a little dim but still a cheerful light of hope.  Snow still covers the majority of the garden but in the bare specks there are colors.  Crocuses in the front yard bloomed nicely this year.  Last year they became deer food.  At least deer left the bulbs alone so … Continue reading Spring At Last

It’s easy to fall in love with Privet (not sure which kind of Privet this one is). This large shrub produces clusters of tiny white and very fragrant flowers in summer. Pollinators love it. I cut and brought some inside to capture the pleasing fragrance. #privet #fragrantflowers #flowersforpollinators #shrub #backyardgarden #summergarden #pollinatorgarden
It’s herbs time! Nasturtium and Chamomile are both beautiful and edible. #nasturtium #chamomile #herb #backyardgarden #growyourownfood #growyourownherbs #herbfortea #growyourownveggies #organicherbs #organicgardening #spicyflower #backyardvegetables #backyardherbs #edibleflowers
Looking forward to eating these berries and Mars grapes but I have to fend off all the critters in the neighborhood. They already robbed me of my white mulberry. #berries #blueberry #raspberries #raspberry #grapes #marsgrapes #fruit #seedlessgrapes #growyourownfood #growyourownfruit #backyardgarden #groworganicfruits #backyardfruit #growyourownberries #goldenraspberries
These Silky Dogwoods (Cornus amomum) planted themselves in our garden. I thought they were white Dogwood (Cornus Florida)at first since the leaves look similar and we have that type of dogwood in our garden. But when these volunteers flowered with a cluster of tiny, fragrant flowers on the tip of the branch. I had to look them up.
Eden rose and Betty Corning clematis used to grow on the same trellis. As a companion planting recommendation goes, rose and clematis are perfect for each other. But in my case Betty has grown so large and overwhelmed Eden each season. So I separated them this year, each one has their own trellis but still right next to each other. Eden seems happier than the previous year. #rose #roses #clematis #edenrose #vine #bettycorningclematis #climbingrose #backyardgarden #companionplanting #rosegarden #perennialgarden #perennials #rosecompanions #rosecompanionplants #organicrose #organicgarden
White Bitter melons are growing fast one they got some rain and hot temperature. I grow this white ones for the first time this season. Hopefully, the fruits are as bitter as the green version. #bittermelon #melon #vegetables #vegetablegarden #backyardgarden #organicvegetables #growyourownfood #bittermelonplant #bittermelonseedlings #bitterfruit #growyourownveggies #medicinalplants #growyourownbittermelon #whitebittermelon
